EXCELLENCE - team works to ensure paternal relationships, healthy start for newborns
Throughout the Army, Fort Hood is known for its size. It has one of the largest installation cantonment areas, the most training acreage, one of the largest Soldier and Family populations, and not surprisingly one of the highest birth rates. In fact, the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Labor and Delivery staff deliver an average of eight babies every day or roughly 2,920 a year. Darnall celebrates the 111th anniversary of the Army Nurse Corps
Army Nurses at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center celebrated the 111th anniversary of the Army Nurse Corps at a cake cutting ceremony here Feb. 2.
Nurses also featured a ‘walking history’ of the Army Nurse Corps, and modeled special relic uniforms that have been reserved from the Army Nurse Corps Museum.

Fort Hood Town Hall Meeting
Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center leadership, providers and administrative staff participated in the first Fort Hood TV and Facebook Town Hall, Thursday, Jan. 26.
Approximately 26 hospital subject matter experts answered questions posed by Fort Hood Soldiers, Families, Veterans and surrounding community members regarding current and future healthcare at the Great Place.

Wounded warrior heals with internship
Vanessa Vinson, a Warrior Transition Brigade intern with the IRS in Austin, Texas, prepares to fill out a spreadsheet as part of her internship with the Accounts Management Taxpayer Assurance Program. The IRS piloted the Operation Warfighter internship program with Fort Hood in 2009 and has had several WTB interns since then.

Another year closer to the new Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center
While it might not seem like much has been done since the first shovel full of dirt was turned for the new Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center here, there’s more going on than just some tractors pushing dirt around.
Construction for the new 947,000 square feet facility officially began in spring 2011. When it opens in 2015, the new medical center will be 60 percent larger than the current building and will include a six-story hospital tower, three out-patient specialty clinic buildings and three parking garages. The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, it's variety of clinics and three community based medical homes support more than 42,000 active duty personnel and more than 145,000 family members and retirees within a 40-mile radius. On an average day, the staff at Darnall deliver seven new babies, handle 3,867 out patient visits, 26 surgeries, 31 admissions, 170 Emergency Room visits and fill 5,000 prescriptions.
