The Fort Hood Stray Animal Facility is located in building 4902 on 80th and Engineer Drive across from the Fort Hood Veterinary Center. We have a variety of cats and dogs waiting to join your family, wanting your unconditional love and attention. Our hours are Monday thru Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our phone number is 254 287-4675.

The animals that we have for adoption are found on Fort Hood by animal control. After 72 hours of quarantine at the Stray Animal Facility they become available for adoption. The adoption process is easy. When you find the pet that you would like to add to your family we have you fill out a contract stating that you will care for your new pet at all time, and will also have your new pet spayed or neutered (sterilized so they cannot reproduce) within 30 days, or 30 days from the time a puppy or kitten reaches 6 months of age. This is a Texas state law and applies to all animal shelters. The price of adoption varies and is as follows. Dogs are $77 not spayed/neutered and $102 if they are spayed / neutered. Cats are $62 not spayed/neutered and $87 if they are spayed / neutered. The adoption packages include a heartworm test for canines over 6 months, and the first dose of heartworm preventative. Cats receive a feline leukemia test, and cats and dogs will also receive a distemper vaccine, a deworming medication, flea treatment, microchip (the registration is also included), and if over 12 weeks of age a rabies shot.

So when you adopt a pet from us rest assure that we are doing our best setting you up for a successful transition from our shelter to a new home. Be aware that when adopting a pet it might take a little while for your new addition to get use to its surroundings. Also, if this is going to be a 2nd or 3rd addition to the family it is recommended to introduce them slowly and with supervision. It may take time for them to love each other. Adopting a stray animal is very rewarding for both the animal and the family. Please come by the Stray Animal Facility and fall in love with one of these sweet cats or dogs!
